Before the Shenyang-Zhangwu Highway was completed, it took approximately three hours to travel from Shenyang to Fuxin. Now, one hour will be long enough. The highway greatly shortens the distance between the two cities, and it is more accessible for visitors who rely on the Shenyang Taoxian International Airport.

The city has a temperate continental monsoon climate, featuring abundant sunshine and four distinct seasons. It is windy in spring, and the temperatures fluctuate greatly. The weather in summer is rainy and overcast, which help create high temperatures and high relative humidity. Massive bursts of precipitation become more common during mid-July to mid-August. Affected by the monsoon from Siberia, the winter of Fuxin is chilly, but the sky is clear.    

Haitangshan National Forest Park is situated in Daban Township of the Fuxin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, and is 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) southwest of Fuxin city proper. Cliff Sculptures at the Haitang Mountain, which is commonly known as Lama Cave, is a man-made spectacle showing the excellent folk stone carving technique of ancient China. There are more than two hundred and sixty Buddhist figures on the cliff, and most of them were created three hundred years ago.
